Got me a restoration challenge off e-bay!
Check out the rust on this baby. When I saw it, I thought of the Andrew Dice clay routine: "No one has even thought of ------ that!" I had to make it mine.
Won't know if there is enough metal left under the rust to restore the blade until I get it. The same for the brass salvage for custom scales.
If I can restore this one I will be very surprised.
I did say it is a challenge didn't I?Last edited by vladsch; 05-22-2006 at 07:11 AM.

Thanked: 2Good luck on the Rust Bucket! Judging from your past pieces, you'll do great, but there does come a point where a razor would be "beyond the point of return...." Hope you can bring this one back.

hahaha I actually saw that one and thought of buying it untill I saw the rust. I remember thinking: "Maybe Vlad would be up for that but it's too much for me."

It's not as bad as some of the pieces I have coming in. I'm not going for the perfect restore, but thanks to Vlad's valuable tips on working with rotary tools and the practice time done on the Pakistani (they DO have some use) I believe I'll do an adequate job.

Tthe scales look salvageable, but the blade ... well, remember I just ground a Duck so thin it snapped. Good luck though. I think it could survive.

I think a vigorous polish might do the trick on this one, without any grinding/sanding. My Satinedge was almost as bad and I polished it out by hand.

There will be heavy pitting, and the blade of the DDcks is thin... Tough call...

Wow. That razor looks like it was left on the back porch of an ocean-front cottage. Maybe you could try for some sort of textured finish.

I am not holding out any false hopes. I will have to see how deep the pitting after I get the rust cleaned off. Just paid the invoice with shipping, so it will probably be another two weeks before I get it.
I seriously doubt that just polish will do it for this one. I don't want any pitting to remain. X and Nenad are right these blades are ground thin to begin with. Only time will tell what can be done with this one.
