Thanked: 1Rust
Hi Guys
Been cleaning the four set of boxed razors, and suprisingly they came up well, buffing tools on the dremel has saved me a lot of time and sore fingers, but on each of the razors there is accumulated rust at the tang and along the spine between the scales. As the scales are Ivory and I have been advised not to remove pins and replace..anyone got any ideas how to get in between these places...dremel tools too large, grit paper ? very little space between the tang and scales. Do not wish to damage scales.
Because of the excellent condition...and the high mirror finish on the razors this rust is more than obvious, and shows badly.

Thanked: 0Hi Trinity,
perhaps you could take a piece of strong paper?
Maybe with air pressure?

Trinity, Bill's CD shows how to clean the hard to reach spots with radial bristle wheels. It is a worthwhile investment, even if you don't want to remove the scales.
You can also try using sand paper and a popsicle stick or something similar to help you reach the hard to get spots.
Start with finest grit that will remove the rust, 600 probably, if not then 400, if not then 320. Don't be surprised to find some small pitting below. Work youir way back up the grits to 1000/1200, then 1500/2000 and then polish to a shine. The spots should be shiny enough not to be noticeable.

Thanks for reply,I really need Bill's CD but waiting on his update. Will try your suggestions, having problems getting supplies of grit in various sizes all local stockists supply a pack with sheets marked fine, med and course with no grit sizes..have a dremel with wire brushes etc may try that as well....been trawling a number of your posts and your "sanding tool" with paperclip holder looks great, but cannot quite figure out how to make one for myself...been also on the lookout for PSA sanding discs without success.
Bills CD will be a major help,as I have a couple of razors that need repinning and proper cleaning/sanding and I am very averse to starting anything without instructions as you have probably gathered I am not the most DIY experienced person.
Thanks again
