I don't have any stainless steel washers but just ordered some just to try them out. I believe that Bill Ellis may be able to answer you question you could PM him and ask. I will email this person that I know has used them and let you know what he says.
if anything has been abnormal for a long enough period it then becomes normal.

Toxic,
Below is the response that I got from this guy that restores razors with stainless steel washers. It appears that they match the nickel/silver rods after being polished.
Hi Bill, yes I have to polish the washers and then they match
perfectly. I
drilled just the point of a drill the same diameter as the washers in a
block of steel and I set the washers in this drill depression and
polish
them with my dremel.
Hope this helps...................if anything has been abnormal for a long enough period it then becomes normal.

Cool, thanks for the info. I'm going to hold off on the stainless stuff for now. I've been making all my scales from scratch so they all get brass. No need to replace steel ones yet.

Not that I ever disliked brass, but I had a razor with the French Ivory colored scales and Nickel Silver pins that was simple but elegant. I didn't think that material was available so I tried with the Stainless. To hard...
Great post with the Nickel pins on ebay and I think that most of us could live with the Stainless washers.

Brass is good and easy to work with, but it will develop dark matte patina within a couple of months. I don't like that. I think stainless steel washers/collars would be better, and for pinning a nickel silver rod is better, but brass on such small surface will be ok too...
