    Question warped d/d

    got me a good looking dd off ebay ,the blade needs cleaning but is in very good nick
    it has celluloid scales one is very good but when you turn it over the other is warped quite considerably
    I bet you can guess my question,is there a way to sucessfully straighten it or is it off to the workshop again

    Well where's the link to the razor old man? How can we answer that question without seeing it? Steam might work, not too much though or you might discolour the scales.

    I would give up on the celluloid. Come to think of it, I did give up on the one I had.

    You can dunk them into boiling water for a few seconds. This gets the celluloid soft enough to shape, but won't do you much good because it will warp after a few days again.

    This is what was happening to my Wonderedge and after about five attempts to straighten them out I gave up and made new scales.

    BTW, your pins and washers and wedges are off to you by air mail letter post. I added a gray and clear wedge because I only had two white ones left and one of them had a chipped corner. I wasn't sure if you could use it so added two others for you to choose from if the white one does not work for you.

    Old celluloid is difficult to work with. It can crack or warp even more when you try to straighten. You might get lucky with it, but it might be time to consider re-scaling it. I think it was Vladsch who put some wood scales on a DD and they look very close to the original scales.
