    Default Scale shape preferences ?

What custom shape scales do you like ?

    Flat sided
Flat sided but slightly chamfered edges
    Rounded like ()
    Large fat ones
Small as to just fit the blade
    Diamond shaped butts < >

    Any other shape.

I just would like a few ideas / preferences.

    Cheers

    Gary

Confession here, and it's true ... I like 'em all. I figure each razor has its own personality and can take whatever suits it. The scale material will likely have something to say as well. The angled look on Vlad's Kingwood scales and Billl's recent customs is quite striking and I want to try it myself. I also like the squared end of the DD scales and will likely do this for a DD Dwarf I have that needs scales. I also admit that a basic rounded scale shape can be quite elegant and simple and I'm thinking of this for my Bresnick DD Special. That leaves one more set of scales out of the four I have coming from Vlad and I'm leaning toward something tapered like some of the Meistro's. That's the long answer. The short answer is, it depends on the razor.

I suggest you cut out various shapes froma piece of cardboard and dress up the razor in different outfits just like a paper doll, see which frock it looks prettiest in. If you use white bristol board then you can even paint the scales as they'll likely look.

Agreed, although I must confess a slight preference for the rounded square ends like a DD, with a bit more curvature in them, and domed.

Can't say I have a preference. What I look for is a shape that works for the given blade. I do tend to prefer beveled sides or domed to straight sides with flat faces.

Oh, and voilin, guitar or fountain pen shapes will do in a pinch.
