    Default Narborough 7/8

I got a mint Narborough 7/8 from Joe with very nice chunky custom scales.

Sorry Joe but I found that the scales, whilst beautifully made, were creating havoc with the balance. The razor wanted to flop causing more concentration to keep the blade at the correct angle. As this razor is in continual rotation I needed to fix the balance.

Anyway I decided to give this awesome blade my best effort to date.

I followed Bill's blog for construction details etc..and made two part scales from walnut and cherry to give the most contrast.
I used a brass bolster / innner and a red plastic liner. The colours really go well together IMHO.

The original Joe's scales will dress something else I have in mind.

Wish I had a better camera as it looks far better in the flesh.

Those are definitely an improvement. I'm getting better with the scalemaking, but the ones you put on are definitely better than the ones I had on that blade. I'm not sure what you mean by the razor wanting to "flop", though...were the scales too light or too heavy? I need to know to avoid repeating the mistake.

Joe, When holding the razor with the scales upwards the butt end of the scales made the razor a bit top heavy. The scales and construction are perfect though, no problem in that regard at all.

    Cheers

Very nice job Gary. I like the red/brass liner with the thin wood. Very nice butting job on the composite joint. Very good workmanship overall. You are making leaps of improvement with every set.

    Nice going!

Coming from you Vlad that is praise indeed.

I really spent some time on these scales but I think my efforts paid off.

Thanks again for your kind words and encouragement.
