Yes, and in Bill's words: With force you can hit your thumbnail with.

    Exclamation

If you were thinking about getting that multi grip tool, don't.

I picked one up today, and I'm already thinking about returning it.
It's made of 80% plastic, so that's not a good start. Also, the 'vise' is kinda shaky. The guide rod rotates a little, and the clamps tilt on the guide rod. All in all this makes for about 15 degrees if not more. Useless.

It could be that my item was defective but I don't think so.

I'm going to weigh in against you Redwoood. I must admit I was a bit put off by the lightweight plastic construction at first, but find mine sturdy without being so agressive as to endanger delicate work. The rubber pads are too convenient. I'd get yours checked out.

    X,

doesn't yours tilt around the rail/axis ? I mean maybe your rail sits tighter in its base, but then surely, the 'jaws' tilt around laterally as they don't grip the rail very tightly, no ?

I just can't imagine how I could do any work on mine, the lightest touch would move the object it's holding (let's call it a 'razor' ) to the side slightly.

Please let me know, I was planning on returning this thing soon, but if it's just mine, I may just exchange it.

There is a locking lever that is designed to release and llow the rail to centre itself for different sobs. It's a blue lever hanging off the side. Give it a crank. If it doesn't hold the bar firmly, yours is broken and needs to be replaced. If it does the trick, then you're the kind of guy who doesn't read instructions.

Both of these are true. The lever does not work properly AND I don't read instructions.
I went to CT today to return the thing. But before I did, I checked the ones that they had and they were all the same. The problem is that the rail is taller than the piece that's holding it. so when you apply lateral pressure, the leverage gets very strong and the rail starts tilting.
I think I may be able to rig something up to reinforce the damn thing. So in the end, I didn't return it. I'll try to do some real work with it and see how it holds up. I've got 80 days to return it, and it's only 10 bucks after all.
