    Question conclusions

Being new to this honeing game I have come to the conclusion that there are definately degrees of sharpness past the hanging hair test after recieving my norton combo, yesterday I spent hours honeing and manadged to get three razors up to scratch ,all passed the hh test with flying colours one was the d/d that I refurbished. Any way I started shaving this morning first I grabbed the tiger brand razor ,it cut but was quite uncomfortable , next the cosmo ,exactly the same, next the d/d and beautifull so I finished the shave with it
Having said this I have come to the conclusion that the H/H test is a minimum requirement and once reached you still need to carry on to get the edge even keener .
I just dont understand if all were as sharp as each other how one cut better than the rest, I know its a D/D but sharp is sharp
    Kind regards Peter

Some razors are easier to hone than others. The DD's definitely fall into the category of smooth shavers and easy to hone.

Different steels behave differently on the hone and result in different caracteristics of their edge. Some are more brittle and don't let you hone to a fine edge. Others let you smooth the edge to fine sharpness without it breaking off during honing. I am talking on a microscopic level here.

I just wish I had a good high resolution scope so that I could see it instead of just imagining it.

Your right, the HHT is only an indicator. When that is passed then its time for a shave TEST. This will tell you if the razor needs more work. From then on you really need to go easy on the honing because it becomes very easy to over hone at that level of sharpness. Just a little bit of honing at a time.
