Default Limited availability Fiddleback Swamp Kauri Scale Blanks and Kits

I am ordering some fiddleback swamp kauri for boxes and scales for my use. If any of you are interested in Kauri scale blanks and/or kits let me know and I will order some extra for scale blanks and kits for SRP members.

The wood is expensive but because I am already ordering for myself I can tack on to the order and save on shipping which by air from New Zealand is no small change.

For pre-orders I will make the scale blanks available for $28 a set and kits for $38 with pins/washers/wedge, $5 S&H for up to 4 blank sets or 3 kits. I am willing to offer this special to those of you who are as eager to get your hands on this beautiful wood as I am and are willing to carry the cost of getting it here.

For late comers the price will go up to $40 to $50 for blanks only, depending on the yield and how much of this wood I am willing to spare for others. I don't intend to make much of it available because of the cost of an order and rarity of the grain. Once a plank is gone I can't have another one like it and I have to order $500 worth of wood. So sharing some from my own stash is going to be an exception done as a service for other scale making aficionados and not an ongoing concern.

In case you don't know what I am talking about here is a photo of the Kauri piece that I am getting:

The blanks will be allocated on a first come first served basis. So the first person to place his order will get first pick of the grain/color of all the available blanks. Then the next, and so on.

I will be receiving it in about 2 weeks and will ship the scale blanks and kits within a week of receiving the wood. These blanks will be 1" x 6 1/4" x 5/32", all dimensions are close but approximate except for the width which will be at least 1". I will split the wood on a band saw. The table saw has an extra 1/16" kerf loss per cut and at the price of this wood it makes a difference.

Let me know if any of you want one of these kits. Remeber the availability is limited and if you snooze you loose.

That is some dangerously attractive wood. Oh dear....
