    Default Fresh S.R. Bed/Jig

    Evening All,

Just posting my new S.R. Jigs to help with restoration work.
After a couple versions, this solved most of the issues I was having.

    Cheers,
    PXP

    Nice work!

Don't forget to show us a photo or two of them in action- solving the "issues you were having".

It looks nice, but where is the information about how to build my own version of one. My current jig works good enough, but I could be tempted to replace it........

Here you go; this should help.

    Material list;
    3 - 2 x 1/2" Rare earth magnets
    1 - 6" x 1/2" square aluminum rod
    2 - 6" molding strips
3 - 1/2" square hemlock/other wood strip, cut to desired height for all to be flush.
    1 - 2 3/4 x 6 x 1/16" wood base
Cork padding, Wood glue, Devcon 2 ton epoxy, Sandpaper, Tung Oil, wax and grip-tape.

Best to pre-assemble it all before you glue it up.
Set up the wood first, glue, allow to set. Next day check fit and finish the magnets and H.S. rod.
I prefer Devon 2T for the magnets and aluminum.

I would suggest finishing the wood prior to setting the magnets and heat sink.
Add the grip tape where you think you'll need it.
    * note if you're restoring larger blades you may wish to double up on the aluminum and limit the cork padding.

You'll see that most of the metal removed if any will be held by the magnets and not in your clothes/other. You may wish to use a strip of 20lb paper between the jig and blade to keep things clean.

Nice job! How does the cork work compared to aluminum where the edge of the blade sits. My concern when hand sanding would be the paper getting cut and a nice thin layer of my thumb along with it.

Beginner question here, I'm GUESSING how this jig should be used, but can someone tell me how it is meant to be used?

    Thanks a bunch,

    Glenn.

    Question

    prex,

Nice looking jig, but why are we sinking heat? I'm guessing that may be for buffing.
