    Default Hardwood Stock for Scales

Just a note about exotic hardwoods for scales. I shall be attempting to make some scales myself and found this ebay shop, the prices seem quite reasonable at 50p UK for English Yew 120 x 25 x 25 piece. I mailed him direct and told him what I was after. Why not take a look

certainly, if you are willing to buy larger pieces and recut them, there are lots of options for exotic or domestic woods. For amny folks without the larger tools (band saw, thickness sander/planer, belt sander) it's easier to buy a set of rough scales that just need small dremel tools or hand tools to finish. For a couple extra bucks, you may be able to get the vendor to do this for you.

    Default RE: Yew

Somebody gave me a wee bit of yew this week and although it looks very nice I'm slightly concerned that as the leaves are spectacularly toxic to livestock, the sawdust might have some unpleasant effects on me (although I would take obvious precautions, I don't have a dust extractor). Does anyone have any experience of working with it?
