Thanked: 11Maybe 1/8 inch lost - but should work.....
I've salvaged some razors with even deeper cracks or chips. Aside from the hone wear, it should prove to be a good shaver if it is a quality razor.
Good luck! and Happy Shaving

I'm no expert, but it looks like grinding this one out would not leave you with much of a razor at all...Looks like you'd be cutting into the shoulder. Too bad...looks like a nice razor

Thanked: 1072You could probably hone it out or possibly do something like this if you have the know how. The blade would be getting a little on the short side, but on the other hand at least it wouldnt go to waste.

It looks like a 5/8s. If it was a larger razor I would say go ahead. I'm not sure I would do all the work to wind up with a 4/8s unless it was something really special.

Whatever you do there will be serious heel reprofiling involved.

It certainly does Ollie
Personally, I'd go with Baldy's approach & cut n shut the heel. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

It looks like way more work than the razor is "worth", IMHO. However, by the time you're done, you'd have learned a lot...
Good luck
