Default From Mike Blue - Codename: Bruiser

As this is a project, I have decided to give her a designation. Bruiser came to me, since she's a Mike Blue razor and she has a black finish. You know, black & blue - bruise.

This is a "razor" that I got from Mike Blue when I was fortunate enough to attend the meet at his place this past weekend. I actually don't know, and will have to ask Mike, if he made the steel, but it's... um... 1085? Mike definitely made the razor out of the steel, though. There are a few things I may do to finish her off - the tang/tail is not tapered and I am debating what to do with the finish (strongly leaning towards leaving her black but doing some light cleaning).

In thinking that I'll leave the finish black, I am working with clear acrylic; I bet a black razor in clear acrylic with a matte black wedge will look AWESOME. I know you can't see that it's clear acrylic because of the paper, but I'm leaving that on until I decide if I'm done shaping the scales.

Speaking of the shape of the scales, well, it's clearly a departure from my usual traditional look. As Geezer would say, the razor told me to make these scales. I based the body of the scales on traditional curves, but the tang and tail section is derived from the razor. I'm going to play with the wedge thickness after I de-paper her to get the blade to sit just where I want her, but that's pretty close in the photos.

Anyway, here's the template I drew up for the scales, and then some shots of the razor in the rough scales.

Looks real good Dylan. To my eye the scales are not far from traditional and go really well with the blade.

I have a similar project going from last weekend. I am still working on the blade. I am about ready to start the scales. I want to make sure it all fits before I finish the blade. Your design is raising the bar! What am I going to have to come up with.

That's looking really nice Dylan. Can't wait till you get them done. I think that the clear would really look cool with the darker blade.
