    Default Brass Rod?

Can anyone recommend where to purchase brass rod for pins? I'm doing my first restore and have read that you can get them at hobby shops. Are we talking hobby lobby type stores or someplace else? Thanks for the help.

Welding shops sell it too, they have alot... that is where I got mine, because I live in a small town where we dont have hobby shops and I found some there, and they gave me a 2 foot x 1/16in piece for free.

Anywhere that sells braising rod will usually sell it.

    Howdy,

I am pretty sure that you can find brass and nickel-silver rods and stock at Texas Knife and Supply. I don't think they have washers small enough.

Hobby lobby will have them. Somewhere around the train model section I believe.

I like to anneal mine, although you don't have to. Hold one end of the rod and put the other end over the range-top till she's red hot...then hold it a foot or two above the flame for several minutes. (The slower you can bring its temp down the better.)

    Ge washers from microfasteners.

K & S Engineering - popular display case at Ace hardware and other places.
Here are some part numbers if you want to try online like Amazon or someplace.

part number 8162 brass rod 3pack 12" long
    part number 1162 5pack 36" long
I think 162 would be for a single 12", but I have never used/found it.

also if need brass tube for ovaled out pivot hole the following:
What I have still with labels:

    part number 8126 3 pack sku 14121 18126 1/16 ID, 3/32 OD - it will slide into
part number 127 Single item sku 14121 10127 it will slide into
part number 128 Single item sku 14121 10128

    Stock# 8125 3 pack 1/16 OUTSIDE Diameter if a need for that

I would guess 3 pack part numbers have the '8' at the front of part number, and single item is 3 digit PN? So would suspect 129 would slide over 128 if you had that as a need.

By same logic, if they do single rod 1/16 rod, probably part number 162

heimerdingercutlery.com and texasknife.com have brass rod.
I think heimerdinger has brass, nickel silver and stainless steel. Don't remember for sure if texasknife had all three. And of course microfasteners.com has the washers.
