    Default Pinning Probs...

Having a little issue when pinning scales.

As I peen the pins, the scales start falling out of alignment with each other & the wedge.
    Where am I going wrong?

Have you got any tips on re alignment?

    Cheers

    J

You could possibly be starting with the pin too long. If you continue to peen to attempt a tight job with the pin too long, the pin will sometimes bend in the middle and cause misalignment. I learned this the hard way! If this occurs, the razor will never be tight and the only way to fix it is to unpin and start over, using a shorter pin .

Its normal for the wedge to turn/move around a little as you start peening the wedge pin. Just make sure it is where you want it to be as you get tighter, once it starts getting tight you can still push the wedge around a little if its not exactly in place. Hope that makes sense.
What size holes do you have? If your using 1/16 rod you should have 1/16 holes, you dont want lots of play in there.
Another thing, I always pin the wedge end first, then put the blade in, is that what your doing?

Default Tang Jig / Mock Tang

I use a tang jig or a mock tang I have them made now out of Acrylic in 3 different thicknesses to match the different size tangs I use some of the nuts and bolts from Microfasteners.com to snug it up .. This keeps everything all lined up while I gently tighten them in..

Here is a very old thread about it...Sorry I don't have pics of the new ones

    Parallel clamps could help.

A tight application of electrical tape works as well.

I suspect my pins are a little long as everything stays lined up until the last few "taps" maybe as sugested the pins at this point start to bend?

I do pin wedge end first and my holes are snug.

Some great tips here and I will have to fabricate myself a little pinning jig for future projects.

    Thanks for all your replies.
