Destroyer of Scales
OK, I'm thinking I should just change my screen name to "Scalebreaker". That way I could be reminded several times a day of how clumsy I am when it comes to de-pinning. Especially those sons of ******* with no washers, just peened into the scales. Crap.
Don't get hung up on hanging hairs.

Happens to the best of us. Rest assured. De-pinning always entitles a risk of breaking. The scales can be dried out, to old, to much pressure at the pivot, no clearance to nicely cut the old peen,...

Good to hear you're being so easy on yourself, lol.

Thanked: 522It must be the high altitude up there in Irondequoit that causes scales to break.
Move on down here to PA where scales never break...... except once in a while!!
Down here the disassembly process is generally preceded by lubrication with
some single malt stuff. No, you don't lube the scales with it silly.....JERRY
OOOPS! Pass the styptic please.

Thanked: 94I got my first breakage today.
Of course it had to be a set of Henckels scales with the logo stamped on them .... Silly me thought I was going to have an easy restore because all what was wrong was that the pivot pin had snapped so all I had to do was tap out the old pin and whack in a new one. Didn't stop to think that there was a good reason why the pivot pin had snapped - tappity tap tap tap SNAP $#%*!
Ah well, time to pull out that set of ebony scales I had stashed away for another project.

Thanked: 13247"The likelihood of scale breakage, is directly proportional to the value and rarity of said scales"
