Default Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish

I'm sure many of you more experienced folks know this already, but this stuff works GREAT on razors. I have an as-yet unidentified razor that I recently acquired from the 'Bay and I wanted to clean it up for a nice vintage restore. I didn't have any metal polish at home, and it was 4:00 AM when I left work, so I stopped by Wally World to see what I could find. I decided on a whim to try this stuff with a blue "shop" paper towel by hand, and it worked like a champ! Took the patina off, and I used it to clean up and lightly polish the scales as well. So, if you get stuck in a pinch and don't have any Maas/Simichrome/Flitz or whatever you normally use, give it a shot, you might be pleasantly surprised!

Yup, its my go to polish for razors, scales, brushes and pins. I have both maas and flitz, but never seem to use them that often. I guess I just remember using it as a child on my father's cars. Added plus that it is cheap and readily available.

    Yeah,
When I first got my blades I hit them with Mother's b/c that's what I always have on hand for bumpers, wheel rings, dog dishes, etc. I've got some Meguire's polish I use on clear coat that I'm going to give a try on scales. For a gentler approach (mainly thinking of scales here) use a micro-fiber towel.

    Thanks for sharing,

I always thought the stuff contained chemicals to remove brake dust from wheels. I know those are pretty strong chemicals if it has them.

I'd have to pull some out and check. I never used it to clean my wheels...just to polish already cleaned items.

I would advise against anybody taking the stuff to their skin. I haven't had any problems with it on my hands, but I wouldn't want residue on my neck. I'd be sure to clean the blade before shaving with it. JMHO.

    Peace,

Good advice Jim. Since I am mostly working on eBay specials, I always wash them and dunk them in rubbing alcohol before they go on my face
