Thanked: 8JL's scales for his other 8/8
JL wanted a large set of scales for an 8/8 he got from John Crowley. John sent me the razor direct and it's going to be sent to JL tomorrow from me.
I found working with large, thick scales the wedge set up has to be perfect. Anyway I made these from walnut with brass and red plastic liners. Double washered to give an even more chunky look.
Hope you like em JL ?.

Thanked: 1With dandies like these, I'll be able to REALLY retire soon 'cause I won't need to make scales anymore for anyone. Forget the "penman", you need to switch to the scalemaker.

Thanked: 8Wow, thanks Bill, it really makes my day when someone can see the effort that's gone in to making something by hand. I just love the tactile feel of scale making.
I hated woodwork at school.
I don't think I'll change my handle just yet.....in fact.....nah.....too many real artists out there.
When a few have arrived and the owners are pleased with the work I'll be satisfied with that.
I'm secretly hoping my wife will buy me a scroll saw (bench jig saw) for my b'day. Cutting brass with a dremel disk and then filing and sanding the crap out of it takes some effort. So when I say made by hand I mean it, I only have the very basic tools at present.
Thanks again Bill, mucho appreciated.
