Thanked: 8Crazy glue finish ? How ?
I've now got two razors with crazy glue finish, the results are outstanding.
The question I have is how do you store the scales whilst it is drying (so it doesn't stick to anything else) and how long does it take to dry ?. Overnight at room temp ?.
I have Loctite 406 which is the runny version so will spread more easily. I am assuming it is applied with a fine brush ?.
To polish I guess it's finer and finer wet/dry until glossy and then buff ?.
I really want to try this so any help will be really appreciated.
Cheers
Gary

I have done filling some holes in wood with superglue, so I think the process is similar... Basicly, you are building layer after layer, until you get to desired thickness. You don't want to apply too much in one layer, it will take longer to harden. Sand it off, up to 1000-2000, and buff to high gloss.

I asked vlad about the CA finish. He told me that he doesn't count how many coats he uses, but is probably somewhere around 15. Sanding after ever coat is unneccessary, but if it gets to uneven, it's good to smooth it out in order to reduce the likelyhood of air bubbles. Also, using just the tip of the bottle/applicator is fine for application.

I did 5 (or so) the other day and that took forever, not to mention I managed to glue myself twice. But 15 ??

Thanked: 4I have been using thin CA followed by a wipe with Boiled Linseed Oil, repeating several coats and then letting it dry overnight. Maybe 10 coats in all, followed by a very fine sanding and buffing to polish.
It provides a very nice finish, but I have gotten interested in doing some stabilized (pressure treated) scales in accordance with that site that was posted yesterday.
Thos were really sweet!

Thanked: 8Has anyone tried shellac and building up layers with this ?.
It would certainly seal the wood and probably be easier to use. I have some I use for fixing new ink sacs in fountain pens.
