    Default Chemical Rust Remover

    I recently bought a box lot of razors and wanted to clean them,,, Some had rust, so I purchased a chemical rust remover - Krud Kutter. It did a good job removing the rust and gunk but unfortunately, it also removed the luster from the blades. Now the portion of the blade that was in the solution has a matte finish. There is a distinct line between the matte "cleaned" part and the shiny "uncleaned" part.

    Is there a polish that will bring luster back to the blade? If not, will time on a sharpening stone or wheel bring them back? Or . . . have I simply ruined the blades?

    Thanks for your help.

    You know this question comes up about every 4-6 months, somebody asks about chemicals and razors...

    On the good side they don't work, on the bad side the do more damage then good..

    There is a sticky at the top of this forum very aptly named

    http://straightrazorpalace.com/works...wers-here.html

    In there you will find nothing about chemicals because none of us have ever found one that works to our satisfaction on Straight Razors
    in the razor restoration game there are no real shortcuts there is only careful hard work...

    PS: that was my nice guy answer, as a Mod I removed the part of your post that was against SRP rules PM me if you have any questions.

    If it's of any interest to you I generally goof around with different chems to try and remove rust. So far, none of them work but I have another one I am going to try soon. Yea, Glen, this might be the winner for the free gallon.

    People here have tried just about everything. If you search the forums you'll see what I mean. :-/

    If I find one that works... you'll know and so will everyone else. Until then, I'll just keep sanding off this black filth and accelerating the rust to try it all over again with something else.

    ::EDIT::

    I like your avatar. Good stuff!!

    Thanks. Sorry for the rule violation. Looks like I've caused more problems trying to take a shortcut.
