Good grief, man - get a DE! They appear to be popular in China, so blade shouldn't be a problem. Just say NO to cartridges! If you need a DE, PM with what you might want, and if I have a shaver grade one you can use, I'll PIF you!

Since I was unable to edit the prior post, I will post here:

If there are any Chicagoans reading this thread interested in helping me get started on this project, it looks like I will have at least a couple of weeks in Chicagoland before [potentially] leaving for China. I have given up on the scales for now; it would be fantastic if I could just get the blade cleaned up and ready for a shave! Thanks once again to the helpful and friendly community here at SRP.

    Default Updates!

"You've put an awful lot of money into this razor..." observed my ladyfriend a few days ago. I couldn't really argue with her; after all, I've gone out and bought a tube of MAAS, a strop, a brush and a brush stand....So I figured today, what the hell, she has a point, let's see what this baby can do!

As it turns out, the answer is quite a lot

Thanks to Lynn's honing expertise, the blade came back in tip-top shape. Wisely, I didn't look at a clock to see how long the whole process took. It was a necessary time expense, given that I was too impatient to do the recommended beginner step of hybrid shaving (i.e. straight razor on the sideburns, cartridge/safety on the rest). No, today I allowed myself to go as slowly as necessary, but I was going whole hog: WTG, XTG, ATG. Everything.

While only time will tell how my skin feels about this process, I can report that although I had my Pinaud styptic pencil ready to go, it went unused. The tip of my chin is the smoothest I've ever felt it, even disregarding that the area was too awkward to hold myself to a full XTG pass.

The same goes for the rest of my face/neck. It's as smooth or smoother than anything I have ever done with cartridges. In all fairness, though, I've never taken the time to do XTG and ATG passes when I shaved with cartridges. And now, I never plan to. Cartridge shaving is what I will do when I am in a hurry, and WTG is all one need do if one is hurrying. If I have the time or XTG and ATG, I will do it with a straight.

Given these results, I have to say it is money well spent thus far (I think the lady will concur).

As for the rest of the restoration, I suppose I will live with the scales as they are for now, the rest of the blade has cleaned up somewhat thanks to MAAS, rust on the underside of the monkeytail notwithstanding.
