This is a progression of polishing with a razor having Gold Wash on the face these first few pics show what happens from just 2 applications by hand with a rag and metal polish watch how fast it goes bye bye..

Thanked: 13245The following pics are the buffers using 80-120-180-320-400-600- CrOx- more polishing Just a standard progression back to smooth and shiny...
Note that there doesn't have to be huge metal loss with this, see how crisp and sharp the lettering and shoulder stays.. If there isn't deep pitting and rust you don't have to dig as deep....
Finished razor is in this thread http://straightrazorpalace.com/custo...tml#post781258

Now you see it, now you don't. Pooooof! Just like Magic.
PS: From what I see of initial picts, there was not much etching to begin with or that could be saved either, right?
I like how the blade came out Glen

Nice work Glen.
I always cringe whenever I run across a restore that has gold wash on it. For me, it's either going to stay and the blade will end up with imperfections on it or, the wash goes bye bye and the blade comes out looking all shiny and clean. It just seems like there is never a happy medium.

You know when you give someone a present and it comes in a pretty box with wrapping and a bow and then you open it and it's all gone. It only intended as a temporary thing. That's how to think of gold wash. It looks great when new but isn't intended to last forever. Sure if you baby a razor it can last indefinitely however, under heavy use it just doesn't stand up and I don't think the issue of preserving gold wash should be part of any restoration strategy.
