    I don't know if the black emery you use is different but the one that I buy from Caswells in Australia is rated as 200 grit (+/-50)

    no, its definitely not 200 grit, i don't know exactly, but rubbing it in between my fingers, i dont feel any grit, so I imagine its 1000+
