    Default Scales

this is the set of scales I`m working on at the moment ,I have to produce a mirror image now for the other one
MOP on a brass liner with thin wood on the bottom.
I have to have a couple of weeks away so will get stuck in when I get back
    Kind regards Peter
PS I know there are some faults ,but cut me some slack its my first go with this material
I recieved Bill`s CD yesterday (exellent work Bill) so I will have no excuses now

Very nice stuff. I love to see scales of any material and those are quite slick. What's working with MOP like anyway? I don't really have any plans for it in the future, but just kinda curious.

since this is my first go I cant really comment ,however I found it not unlike other natural materials bone etc.
Two things though, you have to be careful to cut a thick enough piece so when it is flattened on a linisher you have enough material left to work with, that goes without saying for all material but since you are starting off with a much thiner material than usual it becomes more critical
The second is the large amounts of dust produced ,it is like a very fine talcum powder and it covers everything, the stuff is deadly so a good respirator is needed .
for what they are worth they are my observations so far
    Kind regards Peter

    Looks amazing, Peter.

I haven't had the time to read through Bill's CD, yet, or to do any further work on my first scales, but the next weekend is not too far

great first effort. it mighta been a little easier if you had cut all the pieces as pairs. use carpet tape or rubber cement to hold them together while you are working on them. ah... you will run across that in the cd.

one more question... where ya going to drill the hole for the spacer

good on ya Bill ,I was waiting for it,got a little carried away with the pinning,I`ll have to drill the bugger out or cover it with a washer when I finally pin them together at the wedge
    Kind regards Peter
