Thread: 9/8 scale work.project

Well need a restorer to take up on my 9/8 SR.
Brwn scale = original
black scale = re done

Procured it on bay. Shaves well.... but needs to be centered and well scales need to be changed.
Any takers or suggestions please do feel free.

I'm open to suggestion of what type of scale to get.
Should I go with thin scales or should I go for modern.
I own a desert wood dovo and really like the scales on that one. URL below. Change xx to tt and copy paste. Again suggestions are all welcome.

I would suggest getting some black horn and making it as original. That shape appeals to me! I do use other materials in my work but that razor screams "Horn!" A very little hand cleaning and polishing would make the blade good to go! You are the caretaker for this generation. Horn can be worked with hand tools and not really raise a great stink!

PS. Some of the regular rebuilders could help with sourcing the horn. Some of the natural material suppliers may have 6 inch lengths of horn when called on the telephone. workshop-how-do-i-where-do-i-what-do-i-answers-here There are other knife making suppliers.

I can't quite make out the mfr. Who is it? I agree with the horn suggestion and keeping the original look. Re-using the washers would be great too if possible. Looks to me like the blade needs little or no work. Good grab!

Dark, are you asking for help for how to do stuff or looking for someone to do the work for you? If you are looking to hire someone, this is not really the venue for that; you should check out the member services section of the classifieds and contact whoever you choose via private message.

I agree with Geezer about the scales regarding the use of that same shape and again using horn. It just works well for the big choppers. If you do seek restoration, please don't remove the Masonic etchings on the front for the sake of making the blade shiny. The etchings are much more valuable, aesthetically and monetarily, than a shiny blank bade face.

+100 on original shaped black horn ! & save the washers, if possible.
