Um, yeah... Cutting bone smells like a combination of burning hair, dog breath, and something I just can't put my finger on. But, I cut the scales out last night, and my garage still smells today. It stinks... very much.
But, getting the rough cuts done was accomplished using a dremel and cutting discs and tile cutter. I wanted to see which was easier, so I bought the tile cutting attachment. Using the discs (it took about 3 per scale) was much, much faster. But, it was easier to make rounded curves in the cut with the tile cutter. Cutting disc it what I'll solely use next time. Tile cutter just took way too long.
I've had a grumpy 15 month old all weekend, so I only have brief periods of time that I can work on them. But, I have been taking pics to start a thread showing the whole process, from start to end product.
Thank you, everyone for some great feedback and instructions! I will be working on these in the next few days... So, please feel free to add any info here if you think of any! I'll look back through this thread before I start sanding
