    Default Buffer Then Hand Sanding

I've found that when hand sanding my razors, it is most difficult (for me) to use and judge the low grits to remove pitting, etc. I'm getting much better with the progression and I am getting pretty good results. Would it make any sense to use a buffing wheel to more evenly and smoothly remove the rust and pitting then complete the process by hand?

I suppose if I were using a buffer to begin with, I could just do the whole thing that way but until I'm completely comfortable using the buffer, I'd ideally like to use it as little as possible in the process.

Has anyone tried this? Would it even be worth it or make sense to try?

I tried to buff out deep pits and a lot of rust with a buffer, and than start to hand sand after the big work was done. It is much faster than to do it all by hand.

For me I used to hand sand and then finish off with a buffer, kind of backwards from what you are talking about. 220 grit is as low as I went & I would progress up thru 1K, then go to the buffers.
