    Default Is this razor restorable?

I've got a beautiful little razor called "the artist". It's near perfect, except for a little nick
shown in the pictures. Is it restorable?

My other razors have a lot more tarnishing, but the blade edge is fine.

Depending on the grit of stone you use it may take some time; but, that nick doesn't look to be anything serious. You should be able to hone it out and have 'er shaving just fine.

I've only got a norton 8000/4000 stone. Think a quick hone on 4000 then 8000 would do it?

Depends on your definition of "quick". I'd use a coarser stone for most of that, personally, but the 4k will work. Just tape up the spine (electrical tape works great) and use some pressure to speed things up.

Circular honing on a coarser stone will do the trick much faster.

    I think I got it!

Had to start again once, but after some work I think I've restored my first razor.
I've stropped it and it passes the hanging hair test, and shaves a bit of my arm nicely.

Tomorrow I'll try on my face. If it passes I'll order some scales for it and put it to regular use.

Next question. Does anyone know where to get those leather pouches that come with theirs issard razors? I'd like to put my newly restored razors in them rather than the
    cardboard coffins they have now.

Not really sure where you can buy those, but I have some elk and deer hides I could make one out of. Might need to try that one of these days.

    I've found this: http://www.classicshaving.com/catalo...344/355716.htm
Which will do, but isn't quite what I wanted. I think I'll be happy enough with it.

I just shaved with the artist. It's a nice razor. More manuverable than my thiers issard 5/8ths. I think it still needs to be sharpened some by someone who really knows what they're doing. My shave wasn't the closest, but it did shave my face.

So all in all, I'm pretty happy with it. I'll be ordering a new set of scales for it later today.
Once the scales are on It'll be put to use along with the Ti.
