Hi Guys,
i have worked a bit with black buffalo horn and never had an issue. This weekend i made a set of scales out of "Honey Horn" {as it was marketed} and it is a beautiful translucent material with some nice darker streaks. Problem is i had a strip delaminate from the inside of one scale and on the other each pin hole i drilled showed delamination around the exit. i had taped the exit side before drilling as usual and used a sharp drill bit. It's disappointing as otherwise i think the scales look great.
Has this happened to anyone else? Is it a hazard of this type horn? {i'm guessing it's ox or cow and not buffalo} Is there a modification i can make to my practise that someone has already discovered works?
Any help greatly appreciated.
