Easy way to tighten scale hinge?
Please forgive my incorrect terminology here...
I just received a mostly perfect goldedge i bought on ebay; aside from a couple tiny spots on the blade and some sort of close to the edge (hmmm), it's perfect. While the scales are quite tight when the blade is in the range required for shaving, they are loose when the blade concealed. In other words, I can see cutting my finger while handling this razor. Is there a quick and easy way to make it more sticky without taking the razor apart?
Thanks in advance!

Okay, this was a dumb question, because the answer is, of course, replace the pin. But, I'm just wondering if anyone has had luck with a quick fix, because I want to work with this razor a bit without chopping my fingers off.

Thanked: 0Couldn't you just lightly peen the existing pin to tighten it up a bit? I had some luck doing this with one of my razors.

Thanked: 1Replacing the pin will not help unless you put in washers. From the sound of it, yours may not have the washers now. I say this because of the variance in tightness from one position to the other.
What is happening is that the material in front of the pivot pin has been made responsible for most of the pressure if washers are not used. You will notice that more often scales of natural materials have the washers. Those are more likely to crack than the celluloid counterparts. If you just tighten the pin, you risk cracking the scales at the pivot pin if the celluloid has even slightly started degenerating.
Dang... that almost sounds like I knew what I'm talking about. I'm gonna have to start asking myself some questions.
I'll be able to keep track if I use a different voice each time.
