having the pics spaced out doesn't help much. It does look better at the 24 hour mark than it did at the 14 hour mark. well see how tomorrow morning looks. I think by the 48 hour mark we will have an answer on how well it does. but then again i can always leave this thing in there till there is nothing left...not much left to begin with.

It seems like there is visually a difference after 24hrs. Interesting to see how it turns out in the end.

I should have marked the angle of the razor so glare was consistent. small detail I didn't think of. tfrod I agree

I know that cane and especially sugar beet molasses contains some lactic acid, which might have some effect on rust.

I have been trying to remember where I first heard that molasses would work as a rust remover.
Layingg in bed trying to sleep it came to me. a magazine. Now if I can find which issue it is in would be even better.

so far the blade is looking better. I am anxious to see the 36 hour mark.

After 24 hours there definitely seems to be some rust removal happening according to my eyeball Mk I

As I mentioned in the PM to you this is a really good idea to try. Be sure to scrub the rust off as you go to remove debris. The molasses slowly eats the rust and when you take it out simply run tap water on it and scrub with a brush IE: nylon or a Scotch Brite pad. Stainless scrubbers work but will cause you grief in the long run buffing. Also, note that flash rusting starts right away once you have completed the scrubbing so be sure to place the razor back in the molasses or if you are done protect it with a protective wax.

If you are using a small tub just remember the molasses solution will eventually be shot (unusable). Don't be afraid to cycle the molasses out with shallow tubs or use large tubs with a lot of molasses : water.

Yea, I've been doing my homework on this and I don't mind sharing what I've found with you to see where this goes.

I look forward to see how this turns out. Although I think I would be to impatient to try this out myself.
