Thanked: 0Info on a DublDuck
I just obtained a DD Goldenedge 6/8. I have a few questions for the group.
What separates the Goldenedge from the other brands in the line, i.e. what are the differences between them? Is the Goldenedge fully hollowed? Who would you recommend I send this razor to for restoration, and contact info? There is some rust on the shank, the tang has lost it's silver coating, etc.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well grasshopper, lucky for you I just happened on your post since I'm the self described "duke of ducks" around here.
Seriously, DD has a very long history starting out as C.F Bresnick and then bresnick and then Bresduck and finally Pearlduck which still exists as a barbering supply co in N.Y but they don't sell straights anymore. From what I can tell the Satinedge and Goldedge are the same animal just that the Goldedge has that fancy goldwork on it. I have both and they shave equally well and the maintainance is the same on both. You have to go to the Wonderedge which is a superior razor being made with a cryogenic process and possibly better steel. DD actually never made any razors they were all made by a series of contractors in Solingen, Germany and they made several series including the Lifetime Series and many razors that predated the use of Double Duck which gradually become the company hallmarkNo matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Oh and I almost forgot, all the double duck razors were double hollow ground with the exception of the Satinwedge which is kind of a modified wedge and a Lifetime Model which is like a feather with disposable blades. There may be others but most were hollow ground. The coating on the shank was a Gold wash hence the name Goldedge it wasn't very durable and I wouldn't have it reapplied assuming it could be redone.
If you want restoration services I would contact Bill Ellis. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 0Does that mean that the Dubl Duck brand was no longer distributed after 1952?

They did stop making straights at about that time, but I'm fairly certain the company still produces (or at least produced for some time after) shears and other barbering equipment. Whether or not it continued or is still under the name "Dubl Duck", I'm not certain.
I don't know any of this for certain though. Anyone care to confirm it?

They marketed their barbering items under the pearlduck name. I haven't seen any listings for them though on the web so who knows.
The last I could find they were located in garden City, New York. I suspect they are defunct at present.
I don't think anyone really knows much about their earliest razors. I suspect the lifetime razors predated the double duck series and later the double ducks replaced the lifetimes and the grim reaper models were their top razors at first. I've never seen a lifetime model with the pearl duck logo.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I just picked up a wonderful Beau Brummel...you mean it was made by the same company that makes DDs? That would be kewl, especially considering how little I paid for it (although the handles were shite)

The was a company called beau brummel Werk in Germany and they manufactured most of the Beau brummels you see on Eboy. I think the DD Beau brummel was a model they produced but I have never seen one in the flesh only from old catalogues. I suspect DD made many models of razors that are long gone and we just don't see. We see the most popular and newest ones.
Of course most of their razors were made in Solingen and we don't know who their suppliers were or even how many they had. I gues its possible Beau brummel Werk was one of their suppliers, who knows. I have a Bresnick Lifetime with a blued blade which makes no reference to Double Duck or where its made and has a Rooster on the blade. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
