MaseCraft is a popular vendor for our sizes.
    Masecraft USA: HORN

You can check out knife supply vendors, but often they may not have the desired 6" long 1/8" thick

Not sure of your shop tools, but you can sometimes find a good looking bone at a pet store/pet section of a big box store. I'm wanting to try some deer bone, but the season is still months away. I'm hoping/thinking that it will be a little more dense.

Like dirtychrome mentioned, pay key attention to the thickness and length.

Deer is not that dense in horn or antler. they don't last long after hitting the forest. I hunt all the time and find it too soft. I'm liking Giraffe but not as easy to find in our size range. I've got some that is REALLY nice but I need to rip it down first as they are about 1/2" thick. OK by me as it gives me more material to use. I have a friend with great tools to take that on. I also have some Kudu horn that is perfect and I love the color pattern. My tools are no where near the size to take on pet store cow bone and also I want to get it stabilized prior...

Here is some on eBay, in the UK but from a seller I have found very efficient, and his shipping is reasonable. His other items are worth looking at, too.

Domed Bone Blank Scales 6 x 1.5 Inches Handle Repair - eBay (item 160559146876 end time Jun-05-11 07:39:44 PDT)

There may be a health issue with bones acquired casually, and I wouldn't even handle bones from an animal which might have decayed after expiring on its own. I understand federal law requires it to be sterilized before sale. but I don't know how that is done. My guess is that boiling them in water would do it. In a microwave might penetrate better into this relatively impermeable material.

I've made a set of scales out of white tail deer antler and they worked out just fine. Reminded me of working with something like plexi-glass TBH. I use the deer antler quite a bit in my knife handles...just want to try some of the bone for the experience of using something else natural...

Hmmm well hell maybe I'll have to try some. Would not be the first time I was wrong! I also have a great supply of it as I hunt....
