Can this be honed out?
I was working on this razor with some sandpaper. I had a small but powerful magnet near by and did not realize it was too close. Well, the magnet attracted the razor and struck with a good amount of force causing this chip. It seems that if the chip were removed the edge would be into the etching.
I like the razor and would spend the time to hone it out if it would be worth the time. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanked: 2591well technically yes, but I am not sure the blade will shave as well since the size will be reduced but almost 1/5 of the original. If it were me I would not bother.

have someone shorten the cutting edge, from shoulder to chip.

I am sorry for your loss also. I guess I'll just hold onto the razor and see down the road. I really liked the design on the blade and was using 3000 Grit just to take some crap off the blade when I moved my hands to close the magnet. I had taken a hard drive apart to use the magnets and just did not place them far enough away.
Thanks for the advice,.“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.”

How about grinding the blade out into something like this ?
It's not perfect, but the chip is gone, you keep the etching as well as the overall width of the blade.

What a bummer. Sorry for your loss there. Like Glenn24 said, maybe getting someone who knows their stuff and has the tools to reshape the blade ?
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

If you want to maintain the looks and aesthetics, I agree with the sentiments above. If all you want is a razor that shaves well, I believe the chip can be removed and shave worthiness restored. Doing so will somewhat mar the cosmetics of the blade, and possibly even the spine.
