    Default Cigar box carrying/storage case!

So i posted up a thread on buying a case for my straights..and it dawned upon me... "i can use a cigar box!!!!" so my project is going to make a cigar box into a case! its going to do the exact opposite of a cigar box lol.. as it keeping the razors dry, whereas a cigar box usually keeps them humid. any pointers onto what i should make the slots in the cigar box with to hold the razors (wood or plastic).. i will be putting silica gel packets in it to remove moister attached is an image of the box ill be using.. (btw those cigars are great!)

I'll be watching this to see how it comes out.

I think it's a great idea. Having a glass top would be really great so you can see into it. This would not be great for travel but for the house it would be nice.

Good luck... And if it comes out well you may find yourself getting a lot of PM's to duplicate it lol

You could, but you aren't the first to do this.
I have a friend who makes cases from cigar boxes with routed foam inserts which hold the razors secure.
I didn't mention in your other thread because he isn't making them readily right now.

You can pretty much make them however you want with what you have. I dont have a router, so Ive made one with thin slabs of wood, and I have a low rent one I use for razors that are being worked on. That ones a cardboard cigar box with cardboard strips glued in. You could also make one and line it with felt or something if you were so inclined, say if you didn't think your work looked very good.

I just pile all my project razors into an Ashton VSG cigar box. I had though about doing this as well. The Don Lino Africa boxes are very nice and would make a nice travel kit box. Brass hinges, clasps, ornate box. I actually just tossed a dozen assorted boxes. Did not know why I had kept all of those empty boxes.

instead of silica gel, you could use rice. it does wonders for absorbing moisture

A cigar box should be fine, and the one illustrated is better than many, as the lid locates around an internal lip in the box itself. But a good alternative is a cutlery box or cutlery case, which you can find in plenty on eBay. You will find more of them by searching for oak or mahogany than cutlery boxes. Small ones are often a lot cheaper than the big ones. I've been watching the market in British cap and ball revolvers for several decades, and a lot more of them seem to be cased than used to be.
