Thanked: 522Rust Removal Between Scales
Rust Eraser to remove rust from those unreachable places?
Widget Supply 3pc Sears Craftsman Rust Eraser Set
I haven't tried them yet. My method is to cut a pencil eraser into a shape that will fit between the scales and apply some Dupont No. 7 car polish. This takes care of superficial rust and dirt. As soon as I get to Sears, I will try their "Rust Eraser".
Has anyone tried this or a similar product?JERRY
OOOPS! Pass the styptic please.

I used these ones:
Rust Eraser | DICTUM GmbH - More Than Tools
I cut a small slice off it, just enough to fit between the scales.
I also use these:
Glass fibre eraser, rust eraser or glass fibre pencil including replacable glass fibre brush.

Thanked: 5Are these the same as gummi stones used by ski techs for removing burrs?

Well, the eraser has a pretty low grid (300 or something ?) so it needed additional work afterwards. In all, I'm not too much in favour of the eraser for the purpose of cleaning between the scales, except if there are no jimps. Of course, I didn't try it with car polish but I don't think it's ideal if there are jimps in any case. The glass fibre eraser is better in the sense that the point is small so you can really reach those hard-to-get-to places. But it's still slow. I prefer to just unpin the rasor and clean it with a power-tool. For the jimps I use the 3m stackable radial bristle discs. They're pretty fast but allow for fine work and, best of all, they generate very little heat !
