    Default Buffer attachments

    Hi,

I'm looking at getting a new buffer, but for the work I do, I need long shafts, which means 3/4" dia., so since I'll my stuff is in 1/2" dia. right know I was wondering if anybody here knew of anywhere to get spindle adapters (from 3/4 to 1/2) everything I find is for smaller dia. spindles.

Failing that does anybody know of a good way to punch out the holes of the wheel bigger?

See my post of about ten min. ago about polishing...The grinder is a craftsman and you need nothing else (half inch or 5/8 shafts...try the hard of soft paramont wheels also...I tell how to drill the wheels using super glue first
    Enjoy!

You can get a metal reamer (I have used this before on buffs) and they work quite well, but I don't know if it would be cost effective or not. I had one on hand. Secondly you could try a step drill, but they aren't cheap either. Lastly you could use a progression of drill bits up to the diameter you need if you have them. I'm sure someone else will step in with a more cost effective approach.

The best tool for enlarging the holes would be a taper pin reamer (tapered for all of its cutting length) or a bridge reamer (partly tapered and partly parallel). Both can be expensive, but you can find both a lot cheaper on eBay than most engineers'suppliers. A used one which was a bit blunt for steel, should be fine for cloth or felt wheels etc.

Taper pin reamers are referred to by number, not diameter, but aalthough not the best way to buy one, here are the dimensions:

    TAPER PIN REAMERS Taper Pin Inch Reamers Taper Pin 1/16” 1/8” 5/32” 3/16”1/4” 5/16” 3/8” 1/2” 5/8” 1” Taper Pin Reamers Taper Pin Metric Reamers Taper Pin 1.5mm 2mm 4mm 6mm 8mm 10mm 12mm 20mm 50mm

You could get an arbor extender for your existing setup. Caswellplating.com carries them, and I'm sure other shops do to. Maybe take a look at Mile-x as well.

I'm not sure if this is what shooter referenced, but Mike Blue has some sort of threaded, tapered... thingies on the ends of his buffer that the wheels go onto, so any size up to whatever the max is works.

I didn't think about those threaded spiral things like Dylan is talking about...those would be your cheapest and best route...
