    Default Reshaping the tip

I've done plenty of grinding before, but I'm by no means a machinist. I've got access to my dad's tormek water-cooled grinder (low RPM, 600/1000 stone), which would be my obvious tool for this, compared to our belt sander or garage grinder (high rpm, 100 stone).

Is there any special technique to grinding razors that I should learn first or is it just a matter of take it slow? I know the saying haste makes waste all too well, and I really don't want to make waste of this razor.

BTW, i've cleaned it up since that picture was taken

I have reground a lot of razors like this, but I don't consider myself expert in metals. So, if anyone else contradicts, take their two bits...

I don't think it matters how you remove the metal. Just keep the metal cool while doing so. And, whatever type grinder you use, leave a little metal in place to be removed more carefully by hand on a rough whetstone.

    Yep slow and cool...

The only thing I would have done different myself, was I would not haved bothered cleaning it up until after I had re-shaped the point...

It really doesnt matter which tool you use as long as youy go slow and keep it cool, if it were me, a dremel with a cut off disc would do the job.

I'm gonna wuss out this time and send it off. $10 is worth the peace of mind that I won't screw it up. I really don't want to have it slip and then nick the blade. I have this thing against learning on my finish piece.

on a related note, I'd happily compensate shipping if someone wants to send me a damaged blade so I can practice re-shaping the tip.

I've used a dremel with a cut off wheel, while resting the blade on a piece of ice. Keeps the blade nice and cool.

Don't run the grinder perpendicular to the thin axis of the blade. It might take out big chunks if you do.
