    Default Jeweller's Rouge

I was poking around widgetsupply.com and came across their selection of different types of jeweller's rouge for polishing. I poked around abit and didn't find a whole lot either than it's used by jewellers for finishing.

I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with it? I'm also curious if it could be applied to razors, and, how well it might work?

So far the only polishes I've used are MAAS and simichrome, but, would like to know how (if at all) jeweller's rouge compares, and, what differences in results it may yield.

I've used rouge for several things. Mostly during the making of Sterling Silver Rings.

My local wood turning store sells it, apparently for guys to hone their chisels with.

Check out texas knife makers supply. I believe they sell rouge as well as other polishing products and have some info.

I don't know how it would work on razors, but it's basically a very fine polishing paste/powder. The colored versions can stain certain materials.

if you are looking for that shiney finish try Fabulustre.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Jewelry-Fabulust...QQcmdZViewItem

its similar, a hard grease based compound. use it on a wheel/dremel using medium felt wheels. run the wheel over the compound to put it onto the wheel, it will turn white with the stuff, then buff a way. works quite well. but remember, no matter how much final buffing/polishing you do, u must have gotten all the sandpaper scratches out of it from the low grits before using it or it will just polish those in there. thats key to mirror vs shiney.

u can buy the felt here at widgetsupply.com
http://www.widgetsupply.com/page/WS/...-mounted/BBK35 36piece set for 17$. you will use a couple of them per razor, so bulk buying will set you straight for a good while without worry.

    my 2 cents,

Fabulustre is one of my favorites for a final polish.

Just like sandpaper, however, other grits are very helpful for the polishing process. Go to one of the knifemaker supply places to go over the selections. Each brick is described for what it does.

My second most used is the green.

Do not mix different compounds on the same felt wheel. Use a separate compound for each wheel.
