Default I know I know SRP and no DEP...

Instead of a SE razor restoration I just cleaned an old Apollo Mikron from Solingen. As told by many, the prototype for many Merkur DE's. I have to work on it still, because the finetuning knob doesn't work. It is complete with its own plastic box, cleaning brush and flat screwdriver (which is aluminum and can't get the internal screw to come off). Even the original cardboard box and the users manual is saved and has only some stains made by waterdrops.

It was a gift from a very good friend of mine. He got it from his grandfather.
I want to use it as the shaver for a "quicky", when there is no time for a SE shave..

For that my fellow SE lovers I offer you my apologies and I swear I will never do it again...

Out! You are banished to SMF and B&B! Just kidding, of course. Lots of guys here use both straights and DE's, with some using the occasional cartridge razor. Lots of the basic restoration and cleaning tips can be applied to both DE razors and straights, and as long as you're getting a good shave without losing a digit, it's all good.

I have about 30 different types of DE's, myself and use them on an occasional basis. 1 shave out of 10 is with a DE.

Rest easy, DE's are cool as well. I have a Merkur classic
and a 1956 Gillette superspeed that belonged to my
dad. I use them for travel.

    What's a DE?

Technology is changing so fast these days it's hard to keep up.

I've used a DE but I wasn't too impressed and it wasn't that much of a quickie to justify not shaving straight. Therefore the gear made it back across the border to someone who wanted to see if it was a better fit in his house. Here you won't get flamed even if you use M3, 4 or Fusion. All you'll get here is positive reinforcement to keep you on the straight path. That's coming straight from the Zen-Budha master I guess I'm in a silly mood tonight

    Default Pheeeeew

At first I didn't dare to post my thread on the DE. But, reading on the Net my particular DE seems to be a rare one.

Has anyone of you, my straight friends, any more information about the Apollo Mikron from Solingen?

I would like to determine how old it is. After my morning shower I will shave with it. I have to meet up with an important customer, so wish me luck and no cuts or nicks...

You may want to post the same question on the SMF forum. They definitely know their DEs.

Great picture. It's all clear now. Thanks!

It looks like it might be just the thing for peening over the pins on scales. I'll have to see about picking one up.
