    Default Rolls Strop restoration.

    Hi Guys,
just wondered if i could get some advice on restoring a rolls strop?

its not looking that bad and theres very little marking on it, it just appears very shiny and dirty as you might expect from a strop that has had a lot of use.

i was thinking on giving it a gentle rub over with some VERY fine wet and dry sandpaper to help lift some of the tarnish off it, but i dont want to try that without seeking some professional advice first for the obvious reasons.

also i have a small tube of dovo yellow strop paste, can i use that on the strop ??

    any advice would be great.

I have restored several and they seem to work just fine. I say "seem" because when I strope the blades they shave better. I use Lubriderm weekly and I usually remove the padding underneath, then I use some cardboard to shim the surface back up to 4.0mm inside the lid, it should be 3mm thick with the pad removed. I also use 400 grit sandpaper to remove old strope paste and flatten out the surface. I also pay attention to the back of the strope to be sure there are no irregularities there.
    Hope this helps
