Thread: Dealing with rust

Hello,

I was a negligent bastard and left two razors to rust for about 8 months while I stuck with a DE.

I have hones and semi-chrome, but does anyone have any specific tips for removing heavy rust around the spine? I was first going to send them to Lynn, but I feel I almost have a responsibility to right my wrongs.

How bad is it, post some photos if you can

All I know to do with heavy rust is 0000 steel wool with some light oil as a vehicle. That will take the scaly stuff down but you'll still have pitting. From there it is sanding and buffing if you go that far. If it is really going to bother you, and I understand if it does, sending them out might be your best bet unless you have the patience and the skill to do the fix your self.

My G-Stahl is way worse off than the Dovo.

From what i could see it doesn't look too bad, you could try some high grit wet n dry (800 1k 1.5k 2k grits) with some WD40 and some metal polish to finish it.

Does the blade have any etching that you would need to watch out for?

The tang does, but the spine and blade are plain. The Dovo has golf leaf, which is probably now a lost cause but oh well.
