Thanked: 10Black paper micarta
Hello all,
I am not sure how many people here have used this material but I have a razor with black paper micarta scales and they look great when they are dark but they keep turning a sort of grey color. Is there something that someone here knows of that I could put on to keep them black? I have been using the same oil I put on my blades but it quickly turns a weathered grey again. Thanks.

Thanked: 0I'm absolutely new here but I've worked with micarta of all stripes in doing stuff with knife making. I don't know what grit you are finishing with, but paper micarta needs a high polish to really shine. I usually get to at least 2000 grit wet/dry paper and then buff with compound on a wheel. Generally, they seem to stay black pretty well then. You can also seal them up with clear polyurethane (I've not done this but I know people who do) though I'd suggest diluting it.
