    Default Hit the Jackpot!

    I stopped at Woodcraft store yesterday to get a piece of purpleheart - a 1/2 x 2 x 18 block costs around $9.00.

    Instead, I checked their 'exotic wood' scrap pile and found a bonanza of pieces to use for scales - 1/4 x 1 x 18, 1 x 1 x 8, etc. etc. etc.

I got several different woods, including Padauk, Bocote, Cocobolo, Prupleheart, Redheart, Zebrawood and teak.

    At $3.00 a pound, I got over 5 pounds for $17.

Since Tom is already the scrounger, I get to be Steve McQueen, since my last name is Hilts.

And yes, good job on the wood. Any exotic off cuts that can be picked up will be much cheaper than buying a large piece outright.
