One question. Isn't lignum really oily? I don't know what effect that would have on my water stones.

Is it Lignum Vitae or Argentine Lignum? Either way, love the stuff. great work.

Thanked: 2027Great Question,They were made from Lignum vitae officinale only because it was all scrap material, leftover bits and pces from a beam I had used to make gavels back in the day.
Have been using some argentine lately as I have access to thousands of brd feet of the material.
I honestly cannot see a differance in the two species.both a joy to machine.

I have worked with only each a few times, and they are very similar to work with, turn, and sand. I use officinale as a "bass bumper" of sorts for my upright bass, and I made a capsule out of the Argentine stuff to hold a cotton ball soaked in coconut oil. It's amazing how the Argentine stuff oxidizes!
