W & B, Blade split, repairable?
I purchased this Wade & Butcher from an antique shop and I basically got it as it was just that, a W & B as I have never found one before in any antique shop in my country.
I spend so much time examining the almost worn out stamping on the tang that a failed to see a little chip in the blade and a split that radiates up from it for about 3 to 4mm until after I paid for it.
Anyway my question is even if the chip could be honed away is there anything that can be done to repair the split apart from honing the blade away dramatically beyond it?
Also the split at the moment is flush with the rest of the blade as I sort of pressed it back into place, can you still use it like this once it is honed?
Once the chip is honed away the split may only be 2mm.
Thanks,
Ps, the antique sales person remarked “It sounds as if you actually want to shave with it!?” What else are you supposed to do with a razor??

I'm afraid theres not much you can do about a crack, especially in a hollow blade. If it was close to the toe or heel your could potentially grind up to it and have a shorter cutting edge but it appears to be pretty central. Honing won't really remedy it either.
Best put it down to a learning experience and look out for such things in the future.

Thanked: 1936Sorry buddy, but the blade is not repairable. Save it though...looks like there are some serviceable scales there....
