    Default It's very zen like

I think I enjoy sanding and polishing by hand, it is very zen like. O spent all of my "tv" time tonight with my razor and polish and sandpaper. Here are the before and after. I do think that the eBay special I have on it's way I will remove the scales. I hope this is not a prelude to thousands of dollars of tools and a complete garage make over, but I think it may come to that.

I think I can get away with a new drill press, belt sander, disc sander and a buffer, now all I need is a good source of mammoth ivory for my first attempt at scales.

It is possible to work mindfully with power tools. Just pay attention to the sound and the way the tool bites into the material.

Then pay attention mindfully as the tool bites into your hand.

The thought would be that if you were being mindful you would know exactly where your hands and the tool were in relation to each other. I've only gotten cut when I hurry or loose focus. Of course, I've never purposefully ran my hand into a saw.....

I'd say once I put my ear plugs in and turn the tool on, I'm about as close to zen as possible. If I could run tools all day for a living, I'd have the heart rate of a marathoner. Unfortunately, it's the time between tool operating that ruins it all. The landlord coming in, asking what you're doing, asking when the apartment became a manufacturing facility, etc. Really seems to ruin the whole zen moment....

My wife says the same thing about our kitchen island. Something about superglue spots one the counter......I dont remember the rest, I think I blocked it out.
