Thanked: 0Allen's Dry Hone Olean.N.Y.
So I've succumb to the lore of ebay and have been slaying auctions over the past week or two and have "come home" with a few razors to practice restoration and honing techniques. So this Allen's Dry Hone is the first to be tackled!
So far have unpinned this bugger and am going to start sanding today!
Also, I've been so far unable to find too much about the stamp on the tang...I know about Joseph Allen and Sons, and even an Allen on 32 something street in London, but nothing so far pertaining to Olean N.Y. or even to Allen's Dry Hone Razor. I hope I'm messing with a piece of junk and not something valuable!Last edited by Raindog; 11-30-2011 at 01:58 PM.

Not a piece of junk for sure.
Southern Tier New York was a powerhouse of razor manufacture.
Union Cutlery, Burrell, Case, JBF Champlin, Kinfolks, Cattaraugus, ... and many more,
were all produced in the Olean, Ellicotville, Little Valley and Bradford area.
I'd say it's a Union razor.
Very good razor.

Thanked: 0Thanks for the info! I'm going to have to be very careful with it then...unfortunately, after sanding away with 80 grit for about 5 hours total, there is still some deep pitting. Gonna go ahead and leave it and move up my sanding progression, wasn't sure how much metal could be removed before the itnergrity of the blade would be compromised. Any thoughts about the amoutn of metal one can take from a hollow ground would be very appreciated!
