    Default Question about hone wear

    Hello all,

I have started my second blade restore on an old Wade & Butcher it is 1890 or older as it is just marked Sheffield. The hone wear on this blade is pretty bad. Is it possible to smooth it a little while sanding, or would it have to be reground to correct it?

I am thinking That I can just round the edge on the wear with sanding. Let me know if this is possible or if I am just crazy........wait I am crazy, guess I just want to know how close to insane I am lol!

    Thanks!

    Jon

You can almost make it seem gone with sanding, but when you put the razor back on the hone, you will see it again. In my opinion, if the blade has enough steel on it, regrinding can mostly fix it.

    Have fun.

Just because it's sharp, does not mean it's smooth.
