Machines used in razor making (part 2) or "playing with power tools"
I know I like seeing how stuff works, so I figure a bunch of other guys do too. Some of you may have seen waterjets in action before, but it was my first time and I was fascinated.
Kurt placing the scrap A2 on the jet machine.
Arranging the patterns on tue smallest shape possible.
Don't worry, it's not on. He's just showing me the jet head.
And we're off!
Getting closer. You can see the first blank is missing. We took it out to check the cut finish.

Almost done....
Finished!
On the way home.
That's a passel of razors!
Total time to cut 9 blanks: 19:37. Tim/Tumtatty are you listening? Forget the hacksaw, I'm using water jet from now on!

I got lucky more than anything. I went in asking about cutting stuff out of O1. It would have been over $110 for 5, maybe 6 blades. As it was, using scrap A2, it was $60 for all 9 blanks, and if I come back for more, no setup fee! Also, they can engrave on them as well, but it might be cost prohibitive if I wasn't actively selling a decent amount of blades.

Yeah that makes a huge difference time wise. Wish I had access. I know of several water jet shops in the area but I am cheap.

You could do it just as fast if you have a plasma cutter. Man I wish I could afford one of those, nice clean cuts.
